Stephens Co. UPRA Rodeo scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 12-13
The Stephens County Rodeo Association will host a UPRA Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, at the Stephens County Arena, on County Road 245, just east of Breckenridge. The United Professional Rodeo Association event will begin with a grand entry at 7:30 p.m. each night and will include bareback, saddle bronc, ranch bronc, bull riding, calf roping, breakaway, team roping and barrel racing. Between events, there will also be a calf scramble for kids in two categories – age 9 and under, and age 12 and under. Entry in the calf scramble will be free, and there will be a $50 prize for the winners.

Price of oil, hurricanes could lead to higher gas prices
Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 5.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.09/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 4.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 3.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has risen 1.4 cents in the last week and stands at $3.77 per gallon.

Guy Thomas, 70, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, at his residence. A memorial service for Guy will be scheduled in the near future. James “Guy” Thomas, Jr. was born on October 19, 1953, in Abilene, Texas. He was the second child and first son of James “Rock” Thomas, Sr and Jenny O’Docharty Thomas. He was our redheaded daredevil and absolutely fearless. He married Nelda Marie Walton on December 9, 2002, in Abilene, Texas. Their home was a refuge for anyone that was down on their luck and needed help. Guy was a strong person that met all challenges head on. He loved unconditionally and if you were his friend, his loyalty never wavered. His quick wit and sly grin were most endearing.
