Residents in communities like Spencer are now in recovery mode since flooding caused major damage in the last two weeks. Brock Storm lives in Everly, but has a business along the banks of the Little Sioux River in Spencer. Storm, who has relatives in the broadcast area, tells Radio on the Go News the heavy rain caused the river to rise very rapidly on the night of June 21st.

Spencer Man Facing Felony Domestic Assault Charge
–A Spencer man is facing a felony charge after being taken into custody early Wednesday morning at ABATE Park. According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to a request for assistance at ABATE Park around 3:30 AM Wednesday. After conducting a brief investigation, Deputies arrested 26-year-old Austin David Chinn of Spencer on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault—Impeding Air/Blood Flow Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony.
National Guard helps haul away flood debris
Members of the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Refueling Wing in Sioux City have been helping residents in western Iowa remove flood debris. Major Daniel Ress says they have the equipment needed to do the job. “We can’t rebuild the city for them, we can’t bring anything back to the way it was before, but we can offer just a little bit of helping hand that makes a difference,” he says.

Milford, IA (KICD) — The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer system is still at capacity. CEO Steve Anderson says they’ve finally pinpointed a problem on the West and Northwest side of West Lake. Anderson is asking homeowners to prevent their flooded houses from emptying into the sanitary sewer.
Hospers Man Taken To Hospital After Hull Accident
Hull, Iowa– A Hospers man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Hull on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 8:15 a.m., 19-year-old Allan Perez of Hospers was driving a 2024 Honda eastbound on Highway 18, just west of Okey Street in Hull. They tell us that 23-year-old Jordan Jansma of Hull was westbound on 18 in a 2022 Ram pickup. The trooper does note that there was “fog, smoke, or smog” in the area at the time of the accident.
Resident of Klemme places high in venture school competition
Caleb Renner of Klemme took home 3rd place at the 2024 University of Iowa’s Venture School Launch Day held last month. 10 teams from across the state of Iowa competed in the event which was held at EntreFEST, a two-day entrepreneurial conference in Cedar Rapids. A total of 37-thousand dollars in prize money was awarded.
Hanson Nature Center Grand Opening Scheduled
The Winnebago County Conservation Board and the Friends of Winnebago County Conservation. have scheduled a Grand Opening for the new Hanson Nature Center! It will be held on Saturday, July 13th, from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Center, located at 41600 Highway 69, Leland, Iowa. The event will also serve as a retirement party for Winnebago County Conservation Board Director Robert Schwartz who will be retiring on July 31st.

Cherokee, IA (KICD) — A former band teacher at Washington High School in Cherokee has plead guilty to harassment of a student. The State of Iowa has dropped previous charges against 46-year-old Joseph Vannatta, and the state says in online documents that the case does not constitute a sexually motivated offense.
