The Skidompha genealogy roundtable at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 will feature a visual stroll through 120 years of changes on Main Street in Newcastle. Karen Paz will show examples of historic photos taken throughout the area, noting the people associated with them. Appreciating art at the Y
The cool and rainy weather brought dozens of art lovers to the Boothbay Region YMCA on Friday, June 29 for a special evening. Local artist Charlie Nowell helped the Y celebrate art with his show of beautiful paintings of local and familiar scenes. Several of his works were quickly snatched up by appreciative attendees. A favorite piece called "Buoy" had several people longing to purchase it before it became a birthday gift for a buyer’s mother; Charlie has since replaced it with a similar painting for anyone who desires an iconic painting of our peninsula life.
Lincoln Academy Alum Returns to Damariscotta for Special Performance
Miranda Sprague, aka artist Mira Raven, will be performing at Salt + Pepper Social, at 67 Main St. in Newcastle, on Friday, July 5 from 3-6 p.m. Sprague was raised in Damariscotta, where she attended Great Salt Bay Community School and Lincoln Academy. She moved to Chicago to further her musical education.
Edgecomb Community Church Plans Special 250th Birthday Service, Ice Cream Social
The Edgecomb Community Church will offer a special Sunday worship service on July 14 to commemorate Edgecomb’s 250th birthday. The service begins at 9:30 a.m. with the introduction of the church’s newly hired pastor Aram Mitchell, who will officiate. The service will include a reading of the original petition signed by 55 inhabitants of a plantation located in Lincoln County calling for town incorporation.

Thistle Inn serves up win at newest Windjammer Days contest
There was a new event at this year’s Windjammer Days, the server shuffle. Teams of two waitstaff raced down the Footbridge with glasses, champagne flutes and other containers of water on serving trays. Whoever brought back the most liquid in the least time won. With speed and balance, the Thistle Inn team, Amy Stockford and Bianca Bal, took first place beating others from Pier One Pizza, Waves, Carriage House, Whale’s Tale, and Boathouse Bistro. Organizers said they hope to see the event on the menu again at next year’s Windjammer Days.
Boothbay Harbor Police make 4 arrests
Boothbay Harbor Police Department made four arrests between May 30 and June 30. On June 7, Deakon Wilson-Harrington, 21, of Edgecomb was arrested by Officer Zachary Barry for operating under the influence. On June 18, Charity Chubbuck, 51, of Nobleboro was arrested by Officer Makenzi Strout for operating under the influence with two priors. On June 23, Laura Hughes, 58, of Southport was arrested by Barry for operating under the influence. On June 27, Michael Cusumano, 43, Boothbay Harbor was arrested by Barry for domestic violence assault.
