Kitsap Public Works is asking residents to postpone their dump runs to all county waste facilities until further notice, as they make repairs to the garbage compactor at the Olympic View Transfer Station in Bremerton.

The compactor at the transfer station along Highway 3 at the Port of Bremerton's industrial park is temporarily out of service, the county announced Friday. Waste Management, operator of the transfer station, expects repairs to be made sometime on Monday.

All waste facilities will remain open during the closure, but customers should expect long wait times. Customers wanting to use the recycle facility should expect long wait times. Delays could continue throughout next week, as the county continues to catch up on a backlog of trash received over the weekend.

The closure may also impact recycling and garbage facilities in Silverdale, Hansville and Olalla, which share resources with the Olympic View Station. Customers may be turned away when capacity is reached at these facilities.

The closure is not anticipated to disrupt collection services.
