A teenager who stabbed a Brentwood police officer in October received a maximum confinement term of six years, including a baseline term of four years during which the court thinks the minor needs to receive rehabilitative services.

The teen was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with an enhancement of great bodily injury. He was sentenced in juvenile court on July 3.

Officers responded around 5:35 p.m. on Oct. 11 to a report of a person in the area of Brentwood City Park who was armed with a kitchen knife. A caller reported that the person appeared to be taunting others with the knife.

Arriving officers found a then-16-year-old boy holding a knife. Officers attempted to deescalate the situation, but the boy stabbed an officer when they moved in to detain him.

A bystander stepped in and assisted the officers with physically detaining the boy, who was taken into custody, police said.

The officer suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. Police said Friday the officer is still recovering.

The juvenile, who is not being named due to his age, was arrested and transported to Juvenile Hall, where he has since remained.
