New ‘ALX Closet’ opens to provide emergency resources to Alexandria families in need
Alexandria families in an emergency or a crisis now have a one-stop shop for children’s clothing, basic necessities and more. Local nonprofits The Center for Alexandria’s Children and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is opening ALX Closet, a new resource center dedicated to helping Alexandria’s children and families get access to necessities in times of need. 2024 Know Your Opponent: Maryland Terrapins
Each Monday this summer, we’re taking a look at Northwestern football’s opponents for the upcoming 2024 season. This week, we’re focusing on the Maryland Terrapins, the ‘Cats’ week seven task. The Terps are coming off a streaky season in which they finished with an 8-5 overall record, and a 4-5 record in conference play in the now defunct Big Ten East. Northwestern will head to College Park on October 11, with the game currently scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CT under the lights.
Theatre Review: ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘The Rover, or the Banish’d Cavaliers’ presented by Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy
For the first time in its 24 years in existence, Shakespeare Theatre Company is presenting the final performances of the STC Academy’s Master of Fine Arts program on one of the theatre’s main stages. The Repertory productions are Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and the 1677 Restoration comedy, “The Rover, or the Banish’d Cavaliers,” by Aphra Benn. The actors in this year’s class are strong talents, and we can expect to see them trodding the boards at STC and other top theatres in no time. With few exceptions, they prove to be exceptional performers. That said, the two shows selected for the Academy Summer Repertory have a few issues.
