Alpine firefighter arrested for arson following recent brush fires
ALPINE — Brewster County sheriff’s deputies arrested an Alpine volunteer firefighter and longtime emergency medical technician Friday, charging him in connection to a spate of recent bushfires in the Alpine area. David Mathew Neet, 44, of Alpine was expected to be arraigned by County Judge Greg Henington today on charges of arson, a second-degree felony, said Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson.
Volunteer firefighter, also an EMS member, arrested on suspicion of starting numerous brush fires
ALPINE, Texas — David Matthew Neet, an Alpine volunteer firefighter and EMS crew member, was arrested Friday on suspicion of setting multiple brush fires in the area. Neet, of Odessa, was taken into custody by the Brewster County Sheriff's Office following a lengthy investigation. Authorities suspect Neet of starting several grass fires, and during the investigation, several incendiary devices were found. An arrest warrant was issued, charging Neet with arson, a second-degree felony.
West Texas deputies discover false compartments with 400 pounds of marijuana
BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas — A traffic stop near Lajitas led Brewster County deputies to uncover false compartments containing nearly 400 pounds of marijuana.On Tuesday morning, Sheriff Dodson and a Brewster County deputy conducted a traffic stop along FM 170. During the stop, probable cause was developed for a vehicle search. Sheriff Dodson and additional deputies located several false compartments containing approximately 160 small bundles of marijuana, weighing almost 400 pounds, according to the Brewster County Sheriff's Office.The case is currently under investigation.

CASA of West Texas is expanding their service area from seven counties to 10 counties. CASA of West Texas will now serve Pecos County, Reeves County and Brewster County. Frontier CASA used to be the ones to serve Pecos, Reeves and Brewster Counties. However, since Frontier is dissolving, CASA of West Texas was asked to add these three to their service area so that all the children in those counties don't lose CASA advocacy services.
