    July 4th crash claims life of Missouri man

    An afternoon crash on US 31 South on July 4th has claimed the life of  Missouri man and left three others injured.

    According to information from the Alabama Law Enforcement’s Agency Highway Patrol Division, the multi-vehicle crash occured just after 4 p.m. on Thursday six miles south of Brewton on U.S. 31 near Old U.S. 31.

    The crash occurred when the 2017 Jeep Liberty, driven by Shirley A. Moore, 60, of Higginsville, Mos., struck a 202 Ram 1500 driven by Demetrius L. Preyer, 39, of Pensacola, Fla. After the initial collision, the Jeep was struck by a 2020 Hyundai Sonata driven by Carolyn A. Albert, 55, of Atmore.

    A passenger in the Jeep, William H. Moore, 69, of Higginsville, Mo., was seriously injured. He was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton where he died from his injuries. Shirley Moore and Albert were transported via helicopter fo Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. Shirley Moore reportedly was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash. Preyer was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton to be treated for his injuries.

    Details from ALEA indicate the road was closed due to the crash and remained closed for several hours as emergency responders worked to treat those injured in the crash.

    Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
