Orange Beach Makos Win Rivalry Football Game In OT
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – A new coach, new training facilities under construction and energized players have the Orange Beach Makos ready to start the new football season. Friday evening they showed that this is going to be a better year by beating rival Elberta in overtime, 27-21.
Wilcox gets season opening win over Clarke Prep on the road
The AISA Class AA Wilcox Academy Wildcats opened the 2024 football season Friday with a 35-6 win over AISA Class AAA Clarke Prep Gators on the road. In the contest, the Wildcats’ J.P. Beck passed for 87 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
Church of the Highlands spends $4.6 million on land for Daphne campus
Church of the Highlands, the largest church in Alabama, purchased around 27 acres off State Highway 181 in Daphne for a new, permanent campus in coastal Alabama. According to public records, in July the church bought the land from Malbis Plantation, Inc., care of Stirling Properties. The land was purchased for nearly $4.6 million.

Groups seeking Mobile's opioid settlement funds asked to submit form
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — In July, Mobile city leaders approved a $154,000 consulting contract with The Helios Alliance to help them determine how to best spend $2.3 million in opioid settlement funds. The organization's founder Rayford Etherton says they're trying to get public engagement and are asking interested groups to fill out a form ahead of a community meeting September 4th. Etherton says they're focused on opioid use prevention, treatment, survivor programs and communication coordination.
