DWR: See Hummingbirds Up Close At Northeastern Utah Event
Hummingbirds are currently migrating through Utah making it a great time to catch a glimpse of these incredible birds. The DWR is partnering with retired Bureau of Land Management Biologist Terry Tolbert and U.S. Forest Service Biologist Lisa Young to host a hummingbird banding demonstration on Saturday, August 3rd from 7 to 11am. The free event will be held at the Red Canyon Lodge at 2450 Red Canyon Road in Dutch John. “It’s a rare and unique opportunity to see Utah’s tiniest pollinating birds in hand, while watching biologists gather baseline data to determine strategies for conserving these birds, their habitat and future research needs,” shares DWR Northeastern Region Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby. “The population status of many hummingbird species is unknown. These banding efforts help educate our local community, and also help us collect information that may be crucial for making future conservation and management decisions.” Space is limited so participants are asked to sign up in advance on Eventbrite. The Salary That A Family In Utah Needs For Basic Survival
Inflation is totally out of control. Have you seen the interest rates? Every time I drive passed one of the those mortgage rate billboards along the freeway, I shudder. It hasn't been below 6% in a long time. The amount we spend on groceries in 2024 is almost triple the amount from 2022 and it is not getting better.
Utah Pioneer Day and Pie & Beer Day: Celebrating Tradition and Community
Utah, known as The Beehive State, was given its nickname by the Mormon settlers who saw themselves as hardworking and industrious as bees in a hive. Bees spend their whole lives working together for the survival of the community. And hidden under the bustling colony of bees is a treasure of honey. Utah's Straw Test Crackdown
Utah is known for many things—beautiful mountains, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mitt Romney—but it truly distinguishes itself when it comes to notoriously ridiculous alcohol laws. While the state's so-called "Zion Curtain" has widely been considered one of the dumbest booze rules in America, it turns out there is no limit on inane drinks laws in the Beehive State. In fact, state regulators have recently upped their bureaucratic ante by cracking down on bartenders who use a "straw test" to sample cocktails before serving.
Utah Hikers Confused by Missing Lake
Usually, when you set out on a trail called Twin Lakes Trail, you expect a pair of lakes. However, some hikers in Utah didn’t find a pair of lakes at the end of their trail; they found a drained reservoir instead. Though confusing and disappointing for hikers who didn’t know what was going on, there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for the missing Utah lake.

Governors urged not to ‘tear down’ bipartisan leadership group
It’s been a year since Utah Gov. Spencer Cox was elected as chairman of the National Governors Association and launched his “Disagree Better” campaign. At the time, Politico columnist Jonathan Martin pointed out that the NGA, which he described as a “once-vital forum for common ground,” had appeared to have “fallen prey to polarization,” noting […] The post Governors urged not to ‘tear down’ bipartisan leadership group appeared first on Colorado Newsline.
