GALLERY: Dancing and drones highlight Red, White & You celebration

Live music, dancing and drones highlighted the first annual Red, White & You celebration at Bridge City on Friday and Saturday.

The event honored veterans and celebrated Independence Day a few days early with a light show created by 200 drones.

“It’s good to see the people of the city and from other parts of the region around here coming in and having a good time,” said Bridge City Mayor David Rutledge. “(It’s) a little warm out here, but other than that, there are lots of people coming out, lots of food here and good music.”

The event included live music from artists Chip Darby and Bag of Donuts as well as food trucks such as Taco Rey, LBS Barbecue and Ice Cream Shack.

Bridge City native Brayden Lambert said he came to see Chip Darby. “They play good songs – old country songs and rock songs. They play everything,” he said.

Darby’s band played throughout most of the day as Paige Price, who was set to open for Bag of Donuts, had to cancel due to illness.

“We had a lot of fun. It was a little warm outside, but that’s just Texas, but we got it done and we tried to do the best we could for them,” Darby said.

The highlight of the event was a choreographed drone show, featuring 200 drones which create a series of aerial images, including the American flag and the Statue of Liberty, as well as the Rainbow Bridge.

Once the light show ended, Bag of Donuts hit the stage as the final act of the day and the crowds returned to dancing and enjoying the music.
