BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Bridgeport City Councilwoman Eneida Martinez is the latest to come under fire in the city’s ongoing 2019 election fraud investigation.

Allegations came in on Wednesday from a woman who lives in a senior facility, stating that a Latina woman with glasses arrived at her door in September asking her if she had filled out her absentee ballot.

When the woman responded saying that the ballot was in her mailbox, Martinez offered to pick it up from the mailbox and help her fill it out, to which the woman refused. Martinez allegedly already had two other ballots in her hand at the time.

The woman also claims to have seen Martinez there the following day in the lobby collecting ballots and checking residents names off on a clipboard. It was then that the woman called City Hall and asked if it was okay for people to be collecting ballots, to which they replied no.

The following week, another woman, who the woman described as African American with a small tattoo on her neck, came to her door looking for ballots. The woman said she knew they were not supposed to be picking up absentee ballots, to which the other woman responded saying that the election was coming up, they were going around picking ballots up to speed up the process.

When the woman asked the woman who she was campaigning for, she said that she was working with Ernie Newton and Martinez.

Four campaign workers have been charged in the case, with one pleading guilty in May.
