BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Recent Bridgeport high school graduates looked to the skies on Monday for their own creation — an airplane they spent three years building.

The Bassick High School students made the plane in their shop class. Monday, they watched as it took off from Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

“I’m dyslexic, so I didn’t think this was going to be that big for me, and it is,” said Tiany Perez, a recent graduate.

Now, Perez has the confidence to pursue a career in the aerospace industry.

Students are already working on building a second plane. The first will be sent to Tango Flight in Texas.
