LSU, SMU to play at Smoothie King Center in 2025-26 season
Like many other major-conference programs, LSU has looked for neutral-site games on its non-conference schedule. The Tigers now appear to be playing one in New Orleans. LSU and SMU have signed a two-game, neutral-site series that will open on Dec. 14 at Dickie’s Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The second game will be played in the 2025-26 season at Smoothie King Center.
Fort Worth Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of North Tarrant Express 35W Completion Connecting to AllianceTexas
It has been just over a year since the final piece of the North Tarrant Express 35W project was laid down, linking downtown Fort Worth with the bustling AllianceTexas development area. The project was noted for its finishes three months earlier than expected, an achievement noted by local authorities and residents alike for its efficiency. The 6.7-mile stretch running from the 81/287 Decatur cutoff to Eagle Parkway was marked by a turning point for infrastructure and growth in Fort Worth, which bears the title of the nation's 12th largest city.
Fruit of Life brings small batch Colombian coffee to historic chocolate factory space
Since opening last month in the former Pangburn’s chocolate factory space, (now reborn as the 12,000-square-foot LaunchBox Creative Community Center & Entrepreneurial Incubator), Fruit of Life has become a hub for coffee aficionados hunkered down at laptops and sipping quality espresso. The selection of fresh pastries and sweets is small but good; cardamom buns and banana bread are standouts, made from scratch by co-owner Victor Camara’s niece. Get there early: indoor tables fill up quickly, especially on weekday mornings. The Colombia beans are exceptional, but that’s to be expected, since they’re grown and roasted at co-owner Yeimy Guzman’s family’s coffee farm in Cali, Colombia.
Arlington Author Shaun Hamill Brings Broken Magic in Dissonance
The phrase, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” takes on a perverse new meaning in Arlington author Shaun Hamill’s stunning second novel, The Dissonance. Here, what traumatizes you unlocks magical abilities, and that’s why it’s still a horror novel despite Hamill’s intention to turn toward fantasy.

Countdown to Kickoff 2024: 57 Days
From the brink of no FBS offers out of the transfer portal to the National Championship game, linebacker Johnny Hodges was a perfect match with the new Sonny Dykes era for the Horned Frogs. After a pair of average seasons at the Naval Academy after being an unranked no-star prospect in the class of 2019, Hodges hit the transfer portal ahead of the 2022 season, where he famously found little interest before TCU defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie and Dykes, both of whom coached against Hodges while he was at Navy, were made aware of his portal presence. The Frogs offered and would make history with Hodges as the new LB would go on to lead TCU in tackles for the Horned Frogs’ undefeated regular season and College Football Playoff, earning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and 2nd Team All-Big 12 honors with 87 total tackles (9.5 for loss) and two sacks.

Big 12 Snapshot: TCU Horned Frogs
Good morning. I’m introducing a new series intended to take a look at each team in the new Big 12. I’m not sure how many I’ll get done each week, but the only way for me to really know about these teams is to actually do the research so I can be relatively informed when the season hits. So I spent time doing the research this weekend. There are links to everything below so if there isn’t a link, then I didn’t write it, but I always link back to the originator of the content. I wanted to take a quick look at the team: get a feel for the best players; look into their portal class consisted and how they ranked overall; a look at the 2024 recruiting class; and ending on the graphic from Sharp College Football.
Photos: Mixed views from Denton’s drone show as locals viewed it differently
Last year, what would've been Denton's debut drone show was washed out by a sudden rainstorm that hit the area, forcing organizers to cancel the event. This time — with no showers in sight — the show presented by the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club went on, but a number of spectators weren’t able to see all of the drones flown by Sky Elements Drones on Wednesday evening from their viewpoint at Quakertown Park.
