BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Giving back to the community was the main focus of the West Virginia Junior College (WVJC) licensed practical nursing (LPN) students as they hosted a family fun event.

WVJC hosted a Back to School Bash at its Bridgeport location with free admission for families. Activities like bounce houses, balloon animals, games and face painting were available for those in attendance to enjoy. WVJC also distributed free backpacks and sports physicals and appearances from the Bridgeport Fire Department, West Virginia State Police and food trucks were also available for families to interact with.

The event was hosted on behalf of WVJC’s LPN community service class as a project for its students. 12 News spoke to one student, Shawna Ridenour, on why the class chose to give back in this fashion.

“Being a nurse, we’re helping all types of people and children are one of the most needed people that need help,” Ridenour said.

WVJC’s RN program will have a community service class in the Fall.
