Rickner sentenced for matricide and related felonies
Convicted murderer Matthew Earl Rickner, 30, was sentenced a total of 60 years, six months for matricide, the shooting of Phyllis Rickner, his mother, last December 29. Rickner was given the maximum sentence of 40 years to Life for Count 1, violation of Penal Code 187 by Superior Court Judge Darren McElfresh. River Communities Comes Together to Clean Up Trinity River, One of the Nation’s Most Endangered
Last Sunday marked the 2024 Trinity River Clean Up in Hoopa. The clean-up is an on-river and land effort to clean up, and share information about protecting, the Trinity River. This year at least 65 people collected over two truckloads of trash, while also swimming and rafting. The local Rios to Rivers 2024 Paddle Tribal Waters cohort and Warrior Institute were among them, along with many local youth.

Husband 'guns down whole family' including son, 6, as neighbors mistook shots for fireworks
A husband is accused of shooting his family dead - including his six-year-old son - with neighbors saying they mistook the sound of gunfire for fireworks. A one-year-old boy has also been left fighting for his life in hospital after four people were killed in the shooting at a home in Kitty Hawk Road, Alamed, San Francisco. Neighbors reacted in disbelief at the incident, with some saying they assumed the sound of gunfire was fireworks as the tragedy unfolded on Wednesday night.
Lightning Likely Cause of Several Fires in the Hills Around Willow Creek
Lightning which peppered the Willow Creek area this afternoon is a likely cause of a two acre fire, the #HillFire which was reported about 6 p.m. An air attack on its way to look at a reported fire, the #HorseFire southeast of Ruth Lake on Horse Ridge spotted the #HillFire. However, those are not the only fires spotted since the lightning storm. The air attack is also reporting two fires, the #GreyFire that are single trees on fire off Hennessy Road–so far that’s four reported fires following the lightning storm.
