BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Seniors at a local nursing home took a road trip to the water to enjoy some time out in the sun and catch some fish.

For the third year in a row, residents at the Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing spent a summer day fishing. About ten residents went on the trip.

The Bridgewater Center says it’s important to let the residents go out and enjoy the simple things in life.

Shirley Smith, a resident of the center says it’s relaxing and a good switch up from being inside all day.

“Because it’s easy and we get to get outside. And I love coming up here every year, it gets us out of the nursing home, it gives us more room,” said Smith.

Along with casting lines, the residents enjoyed an outdoor picnic, and being surrounded in nature.

The Bridgewater Center says it’s a highlight of the year for the seniors and helps to build a sense of family and companionship.
