Standing in the parking lot of a boathouse in Princeton, NJ, where the men and women’s national rowing teams were conducting pre-Olympic workouts, Deirdre McLoughlin couldn’t help but pinch herself. Life’s path had taken the New Jersey native to undergraduate and graduate school in Boston, a professional career in California, and now the 2009 MGH Institute graduate was just a few weeks away from working the Olympic Games in Paris, her third as a physical therapist for the U.S. Men’s and Women’s rowing teams.
Boston man arrested on firearm smuggling charges
A Boston man was arrested and charged last week in federal court in Boston, in connection with illegal firearm smuggling between the US and the Dominican Republic, according to a statement from the Department of Justice. 26-year-old Alexis Lara Herrera was charged with one count of smuggling goods from the United States; aiding and abetting. He made his initial appearance in court last Friday where he pleaded not guilty. Herrera is currently being held in federal custody, pending trial. According to charging documents, around March 18, 2023, local law enforcement in the Port of Haina in the Dominican Republic were conducting security checks on international freight, including a shipping container bound for Brooklyn.

BOSTON– Studio G Architects announced the promotion of eight members of the team that are critical to the success of the firm. Steve Michener and Gabriela Shelburne have been promoted to Principal. Michener has been with the company since 2007 and has proven to be a key member with the design and technical execution of education and civic projects. Through his support in Studio G’s largest projects, Michener has shown his ability to lead successful projects and offer counsel and direction to teams in design through construction phases. Shelburne has been with Studio G Architects since 2011 and has demonstrated both internal and external leadership. She has been a clear and articulate champion of Studio G’s mission and contributes significantly to all project types. For the past few years, she has led the Housing Studio.

The Orchestre Classique de Montréal has announced that Jacques Lacombe is stepping down from his position as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. “The Board of Directors of the Orchestre Classique de Montréal thanks him for his contribution over the past season, and wishes him every success in his future endeavours,” said Joel Carrier, Chairman of the OCM Board of Directors, in an official press release.
