Sunrise Stories: Kanarraville Man Shot Dead Late July 17
Older Mother and Son Dead Following Pleasant Grove Fire. A structure fire in Pleasant Grove on Wednesday has unfortunately claimed two lives. The fire at 600 E. and 100 N. occurred just before 2 a.m. with the back porch and attached room engulfed in flames. An elderly woman was taken to the hospital and was declared dead due to smoke-related symptoms.
A new kickoff: UMA Camp Williams excited to start 8-man football
There will be another high school playing football next fall as Utah Military Academy (UMA) Camp Williams in Lehi will take to the gridiron in 8-player football. A key figure in all of this was lead administrator Paul Schulte, who was a longtime administrator in the Salt Lake School District and at Highland High School and was hired by UMA in the middle of the 2023-24 school year. Schulte has always been a proponent of extracurriculars, particularly athletics. And the school’s Board of Directors are behind his vision.
Lehi residents to face tax increases from city, county, school district and water district
Lehi residents will receive their annual property tax and valuation notices this week and will notice several proposed tax increases. Alpine School District (ASD) is proposing an increase on an average residential home value ($489,000) from $1,205 to $1,394. Commercial property owners’ taxes will increase from $2,192 to $2,534. The public hearing meeting regarding the tax increase is scheduled for August 13 at 6 p.m. at the ASD offices(575 N 100 E American Fork).
