A newly built home on the market in southeast Minnesota blends country comforts with modern luxury from its hilltop perch outside Lanesboro.

Property owner Charlie Neimeyer, who is also a St. Paul-based realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty, built the home last year and worked to restore the surrounding prairie.

The new home, which sits on a nearly 20-acre property featuring a 1911 barn, is now for sale for $1,395,000.

Hear about the home from owner/realtor Charlie Neimeyer himself:

Q: There's quite a captivating landscape surrounding the home. How did the setting inform the design?

We worked with an architect to ensure that each of the living spaces enjoyed captivating views, whether they were rolling agricultural fields, rock outcroppings, oak trees, or a 10+ mile vista. In essence, we wanted to bring the outside in.

Q: The reclaimed wood and the historic barn feel contrasted with modern touches, such as the contemporary wallpapers in the bathroom. Why was it important to bring the past and present together?

We chose the building’s shape and exterior materials so that it would blend in with the utilitarian agricultural buildings in the area. But, on the interior, we selected modern amenities and luxury finishes. So many new construction projects on the market lack personality; we wanted to avoid that.

Q: Having spent a lot of time at the property yourself during this process, what do you enjoy most about the region?

That’s easy, it’s the unique geology of the Driftless region. There are rolling hills, steep terrain, and spring fed trout streams, in short it’s a beautiful area. There’s a true serenity to the area.

Q: Who might be the ideal buyer for this property?

Anyone seeking to immerse themselves in a peaceful, natural environment. I was drawn to this specific location because it has easy access to; the town of Lanesboro, over 60 miles of state trails, and the Root River and its surrounding tributaries - which have amazing trout fishing. It's just two hours from the Twin Cities and, for those in Rochester, it's under 40 minutes.

Can this friggin’ guy sound any more like a realtor with his answers, reads like it’s hot off the MLS. A 1.3, in Lanesboro, no water, no landscaping, etc, etc….i’d start packing Charlie, looks like you’re moving to a barn in Lanesboro.
