After more than a decade behind the news anchor desk at KARE 11, Randy Shaver is returning to his roots following his retirement.

The longtime Twin Cities TV anchor, who spent 18 years as the sports director for KARE 11 before switching to the news desk, revealed on Tuesday he is launching a weekly high school football podcast.

Called the Randy Shaver Prep Football Podcast, it will be distributed through YouTube and through the Talk North Podcast Network – which is also home to local sportscasts from the likes of Michael Russo, Jon Krawczynski, and Jim Souhan.

The first guests on Shaver's podcast, which debuts on July 29, are NFL Hall of Famer John Randle and veteran Becker High School football coach Dwight Lundeen.

Shaver bid farewell to Twin Cities TV screens last month , bringing down the curtain on a 43-year television career.

As he signed off, Shaver said his plan was to spend more time with his family, saying: "It's about time. I have a granddaughter who is nearly 2-years-old. Bella doesn't care – no pun intended – that I've worked here almost two-thirds of my life, she doesn't care that I love my job, she does't care I'm on TV. The only thing she cares about is when is Papa coming over to play, and can we maybe sneak in some ice cream."
