A search warrant executed at an Alexandria home resulted in the discovery of more than 240 stolen road and yard signs, with the wife of a political candidate named in the warrant.
The Alexandria Police Department posted a news release on Facebook on Thursday announcing the search warrant at the home on the 2700 block of Le Homme Dieu Heights after multiple sign thefts were reported in the region.
The search warrant names Wendy Hoff, whose husband, Judd Hoff, is running for a seat in the House of Representatives in District 12B.
As of this time, no arrests have been made in the case.
Police found 242 signs at the property, including political yard signs, event signs, and road signs, some of which have a value of up to $300.
Among the signs were those for Donald Trump, Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota 7th District candidate Steve Boyd; two large "No Snowmobiles" road signs, eight "No Parking" signs and two "Slow for Children" signs; and signs for a number of businesses including McDonald's, TNT Fireworks, and Casey's Amusements.
Nine signs advertising various garage sales were also among those discovered.
The warrant links Wendy Hoff to numerous alleged sign thefts over a series of weeks dating back to early July, with a trigger point possibly being a conversation a deputy had with her on July 10 after police had removed one of her husband's signs from the public right of way.
She was allegedly frustrated with their sign being taken and, according to the warrant, is heard saying on bodycam footage: "If I put sign within 12 feet of this property, by law you as a person could come by and take that piece of property because it's in the right of way."
She then added: "You can't put even a, technically garage sale sign, realtor sign, kay? Them bitches gotta go."
In one of the subsequent theft reports, Hoff was confronted by an employee after allegedly removing several signs from outside of Alex Pro Firearms in Alexandria, and she told the worker that the signs were in the public right-of-way before leaving in a van with them.
