Longtime Cities 97.1 music director and radio host Paul Fletcher was let go by iHeartMedia on Thursday.

Fletcher, who’d been with the station since 2012, told Bring Me The News he was let go due to nationwide cuts at the radio giant.

He played a key role in the station’s slight rebrand back in 2018, when the station went from "Cities 97" to "Cities 97.1" while offering a "uniquely Twin Cities" sound.

He was the afternoon drive host on Cities 97.1 until October 2023, when the station quietly moved him to the morning show while flipping Brian Oake to afternoons. Oake, who was in his second stint with the station, was fired this past February.

According to Radio Insight , iHeartMedia's cuts have impacted station programmers around the country, though there are reports of on-air personalities being fired as well.

In addition to his radio gigs, Fletcher has involved himself heavily into Minnesota's hockey community. He has hosted a hockey podcast with former NHLer Mark Parrish in addition to working in operations with the Minnesota Wild and PWHL Minnesota.

iHeartMedia Minneapolis stations include Cities 97.1, KFAN, KOOL 108, KDWB, K102 and KTLK, among others .

It's unclear if anyone else at iHeartMedia Minneapolis has been affected.
