A Texas man was injured near Sauk Rapids over the weekend when he was struck by a fellow motorcyclist who was supposed to be acting as his guide.

At around 7:10 p.m., the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident involving two motorcycles that happened at the 3200 block of Golden Spike Road Northeast.

Deputies on the scene found Christopher Creed Fisher, 50, of New Braunfels, Texas, with serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Investigating deputies determined that Fisher had been at a home in rural Benton County before the crash with his friend from Andover, Minnesota, and another man Fisher had only met that day.

The group had planned on driving to Rollie’s Rednecks and Longnecks near Sauk Rapids, and the man whom Fisher had just met volunteered to guide them to the bar.

Before the crash, the man leading the group had gone ahead of Fisher and his friend from Andover, causing them to lose sight of him. The two men rounded a curve while continuing their route and saw the third man stopped on his motorcycle ahead in the road.

Fisher and the Andover man said they slowed down as they approached the third man. When Fisher maneuvered to drive around the man to the left, he abruptly turned his motorcycle to the left and moved into the path of Fisher’s motorcycle, striking him.

The man then fled on foot, and could not be found by Benton County deputies and Sauk Rapids police officers.

Police have determined the identity of the third driver however, and the investigation is ongoing.
