Uptown Porchfest brings 68 bands to the yards of the Wedge this weekend

Live music is taking over the Wedge neighborhood this weekend for the second annual Uptown Porchfest.

The gathering, similar to an earlier summer edition in Kingfield or the upcoming Powderhorn Porchfest , has musicians taking to "stages," aka porches, around the neighborhood for free ongoing performances throughout the afternoon on Aug. 17.

The second annual Uptown Porchfest, co-organized by Lisa Martelly, is a sweeping edition of the DIY Porchfest model with 68 bands across 33 porches and yards throughout the Wedge (more fodder for the "what is Uptown?" debate). Mueller Park serves as the epicenter with bathrooms, food trucks, and a kid's area.

The performers cross genres with everything from hip-hop to emo, folk to electronic music, funk to classical. A full list of performers is available on the Uptown Porchfest website, but includes Hunny Bear, drey dk, Yare, Annie and the Bang Bang, B+ Brass, Paper Chain, and more.

Uptown Porchfest takes place from 1–5 p.m. on Aug. 17 and is free. (Though, organizers suggest bringing cash to tip performers.) There is also free bus service to the festival through Metro Transit.
