Two people have now been found dead inside the Minneapolis apartment building where a massive fire broke out Tuesday night, authorities confirmed.

The Minneapolis Fire Department did not initially report any fire fatalities following the incident in the city’s Elliot Park neighborhood, but fire officials later said that reports of an unaccounted for apartment resident led to the discovery of two victims on Thursday.

In a news release, the fire department said a more extensive search with cadaver dogs will be performed Friday.

The blaze broke out just before 9:45 p.m. Tuesday inside a four-story apartment building at 1501 11th Avenue South.

According to officials, a fire in the building’s rear stairwell quickly spread to all four floors and some residents had to be rescued from their windows with 40-foot ladders.

The flames spread to the roof, which collapsed. Four people were seriously injured, including one teenager, and around 30 residents were displaced.

The discovery of two bodies nearly two days after the fire has led some to question how firefighters failed to locate the victims sooner.

In an interview with CBS News on Thursday , property manager David Hollmon said he went to the fire department when he realized he hadn’t seen one of his tenants since the fire.

Hollmon reportedly told officials he thought one of the tenants was still inside.

Officials, according to Hollomon, told him “that was impossible and they swept through the building twice,” CBS news reported .

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews were initially dispatched to reports of someone possibly starting a fire inside the building.
