Homicide victim found near Red River ID’ed as 14-year-old Moorhead girl

Moorhead police have identified the body found by Red River on Tuesday as a 14-year old girl, and a suspect in her killing has been arrested.

The body of Jaelyn Nichole Walker of Moorhead, was found early Tuesday morning, hours after officers received a report of her being missing.

Officers were searching the area of 6th Avenue and Elm Street South and found her dead alongside the Red River.

In an update Tuesday afternoon, Moorhead PD said that an 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody in Fargo and is being held at Cass County Jail on pending homicide charges.

According to police, Walker knew the suspect. The investigation is still active, and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office has not put out a cause of death at this time.

Police issued an appeal Tuesday evening to find a Samsung Galaxy cellphone with an orange case that they believe is connected to the incident. They also wanted to hear from anyone who gave a ride to the suspect on Monday evening.
