Two Red Lobster locations to close in Minnesota

Red Lobsters has said it intends to close another 23 restaurants across the country, with two of them in Minnesota.

The restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy back in May after the company reported it had more than $1 billion in debt, and initially named more than 125 restaurants that were at risk of closure, and that 99 would temporarily close.

The initial list of potential closures included locations at American Boulevard Drive in Bloomington, and at 8900 Golden Valley Road in Golden Valley, though neither of these were on the initial temporary closure list.

It's now been confirmed via a court filing this week that the Golden Valley location is closing, along with the restaurant at 12515 Elm Creek Blvd. in Maple Grove.

Both are now listed as "temporarily closed" on the Red Lobster site.

The Bloomington location, though considered at risk in May, is not included on the closure list, and is still listed as open as of Monday.

It will leave the company with nine locations in Minnesota: Blaine, Bloomington, Roseville, Maplewood, Oakdale, St. Cloud, Mankato, Rochester and Duluth.

NBC reports that Red Lobster's financial woes have been driven primarily by asset-stripping by the private equity company that owns it, which has saddled the brand with massive debts.
