Already bruised and battered by two rounds of intense storms Monday-Tuesday, the Twin Cities could be in line for a third round of severe weather this week when a cold front brings with it another chance on Thursday afternoon.

"The main question is how strong and how widespread do thunderstorms end up during the day on Thursday, and right now the highest confidence in seeing a few severe storms would be southern Minnesota along I-90," says the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.

However, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has expanded the slight risk zone for severe storms further north, stretching all the way north of Brainerd and putting the Twin Cities right in the middle of the risk area.

The expansion of the slight risk zone falls in line with what the models are projecting. The NAM 3km model is showing the strongest storms tracking across many of the areas that were hit hard Monday-Tuesday.

The HRRR model shows a more robust line of storms that stretches all the way from Canada to Iowa and reaches the Twin Cities during the evening hours.

While it doesn't look to be an event as intense as what occurred with the storms that knocked out power to more than 150,000 customers in the Twin Cities Monday-Tuesday, there is going to be a risk of damaging winds.

We'll have updates with meteorologist Sven Sundgaard over the next 36 hours so check back for more severe weather updates.
