White Castle picks the Twin Cities to test tater tot, cheese curd hybrid

White Castle might not be in residence on Lake St. any longer, but the slider-slinging company has not forgotten about Minnesota.

The chain is testing out a new menu item that sounds a bit like a Minnesota State Fair dish: Triple Cheese Tots. The new side will be served exclusively at locations around the Twin Cities and St. Louis. The company says that the "response at local Castles will determine whether the Triple Cheese Tots are introduced nationwide."

Triple Cheese Tots are something like the offspring of a tater tot and a cheese curd — two things Minnesota knows well. They're classic tater tots infused with melted cheddar, colby jack, and mozzarella.

"After nearly a century of being part of the Minneapolis community, we trust the opinion of local Cravers and will let them determine if the Triple Cheese Tots will become the next big thing nationwide," Jamie Richardson, vice president of White Castle, said in a statement.

The chain has metro locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Columbia Heights, Hopkins, Brooklyn Park, Bloomington, Inver Grove Heights, and Blaine.

It is, perhaps, unsurprising that Minneapolis was picked because this sounds like something you might find at just about any restaurant in Minnesota.
