A Minneapolis man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a man while high on PCP.

William Howard Sanders IV, 38, was charged with one count of 2nd-degree murder in Hennepin County court earlier this week. He’s accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old De’Jaun Marquise Michael Hall of Minneapolis.

In an interview, Sanders admitted to shooting Hall, adding that he had smoked PCP and didn’t know what was on his mind at the time. He later claimed he was acting in self defense and that Hall had made threats against him and his family.

Sanders also stated he was suspicious of Hall because he was wearing a sweatshirt on a "nice day," according to the criminal complaint.

According to the criminal complaint, Minneapolis police responded to a report of a shooting near 1st Avenue South and East 19th Street at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

At the scene, officers found Hall suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene despite life-saving efforts. A report from the medical examiner found that he had died from three gunshot wounds.

Police later reviewed surveillance footage from the time of the shooting, which showed Hall and a man identified as Sanders get into an argument. Sanders appeared to take a gun out of a fanny pack and follow Hall around a parked car. Sanders then shot him multiple times before walking away from the scene.

Sanders was arrested at a hotel on Thursday. During a search of his vehicle, officers found the fanny pack seen in the surveillance footage. Inside of the fanny pack was a handgun.
