Warning: This story contains potentially upsetting details about a suspected suicide.

A man suspected in a homicide in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, took his own life shortly after being pulled over by police in Winona, authorities say.

The suspect has been identified as 59-year-old Scott Adam Jenkins of Rochester. According to a news release from the Winona Police Department, police in Eau Claire had warned Minnesota law enforcement agencies earlier in the week that Jenkins "may be in the area."

"Eau Claire PD requested that if located, to stop Jenkins, contact their agency, and detain him," the release says:

On Friday around 8 p.m., a Winona police officer spotted Jenkins' vehicle on Highway 43. The officer then pursued and pulled Jenkins over on Interstate 90.

"Officers gave verbal commands for Jenkins to exit the vehicle but he didn’t," the release says. "Eventually, officers approached the vehicle and found Jenkins in the driver’s seat slumped over with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

He was soon confirmed dead. Police say he was alone in the car.
