Seven Minnesota schools were named 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools this week by the U.S. Department of Education.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced the 2024 awardees Monday.

"For more than 40 years, our National Blue Ribbon Schools have shown us what it means to raise the bar for our nation's students," he said.

According to the Department of Education, National Blue Ribbon Schools are "led by leaders who articulate a clear vision of instructional excellence and uphold high standards."

According to the Minnesota Department of Education, 2024 marks the first year Minnesota schools have been honored for both high performance and closing achievement gaps.

In a statement Tuesday, MDE Commissioner Willie Jett congratulated all schools that earned recognition.

"The efforts of students, educators, staff and families make your schools a place where students can feel at home. You are an example of what Minnesota schools can achieve," Jett stated. "We are especially excited to see schools closing the achievement gap to make their schools a place where all students can learn, grow and explore."
