Fatal crash shuts down eastbound Highway 36 in Little Canada

A busy stretch of highway in Little Canada is shut down Wednesday afternoon as authorities respond to a fatal crash.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation's traffic map shows the eastbound lanes of Highway 36 between Rice Street and I-35E are closed.

The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed at least one person was killed when a vehicle and motorcycle collided on the highway around 3 p.m.

In a brief statement, the patrol said the motorcyclist and driver of a Hyundai Tucson were both traveling eastbound and approaching Rice Street when they collided as traffic came to a halt.

No further details were immediately provided as the investigation continues.
