    Police shoot person dead in Belle Plaine in connection with artist's killing in St. Paul

    St. Paul police fatally shot a person in Belle Plaine early Thursday morning.

    The St. Paul Police Department confirmed the incident related to the homicide investigation stemming from a woman’s killing outside the Lowertown Lofts Artists Cooperative on Wednesday afternoon .

    “Saint Paul police officers were involved in a shooting this morning just after 6:30 a.m. in Belle Plaine, MN where one person has died,” the department posted on X around 10 a.m. “No officers were injured. This incident is related to yesterday’s homicide in Lowertown."

    The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed its agents are responding to a “use-of-force” incident Thursday in Belle Plaine.

    The Belle Plaine Police Department in a Facebook post confirmed there continues to be police activity, which began overnight, in the area of Meridian Street South and Prairie Street East.

    "There is no threat to the public at this time," the department stated. "Please stay away from the area, as there is an ongoing, active investigation. As we gather more facts, we will send out a press release."
