Fall concert season is in full swing.

Here's a look at some of the must-see concerts happening around the Twin Cities this week, including quite a few that are likely to sell out if they haven't already, whether it's New York hardcore legends at the Cedar, emo icons trotting out their most-beloved album, or some of the biggest names in comedy as the 10,000 Laughs Festival takes place over the weekend.

    Fontaines D.C. w/ Been Stellar

Tuesday, Oct. 8 at The Fillmore

The Irish band's fourth studio album, Romance , saw them shift a bit toward arena rock from their earlier post-punk-influenced sound. Nonetheless, Romance may be their best album yet, drawing praise from reviewers and even Elton John. While the new album might evoke The Libertines or Oasis, they probably won't be seen on the latter's reunion tour after a public spat with the always-game-for-a-tussle Liam Gallagher.

    More concerts on Tuesday:

Get Up Kids - 25 Years of Something to Write Home About

Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Uptown Theater

The Get Up Kids are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their most beloved album, Something to Write Home About . The Kansas-born group was hugely influential in the emo and punk scene, particularly after the release of their seminal album, which just got a re-release. They'll be playing that album alongside Smoking Popes, who open.

Elsewhere, the long-running, ever-changing Boris hits the Fine Line. The Japanese band has released more than 20 albums over the last three decades. Despite their longevity, they continue to make interesting music, seamlessly shifting from drone to sludge metal to more pop-influenced sounds.

    More concerts on Wednesday:

    David Cross with Sean Patton

Thursday, Oct. 10 at First Avenue

Ask someone from where they know David Cross, and you'll get a lot of answers. His seminal Mr. Show sketch show. Decades of stand-up. His role as Tobias Funke on Arrested Development . The voice of Happy Time Harry on Aqua Teen Hunger Force . (Ok, maybe not that last one.) He's bringing his offbeat stand-up to First Avenue as part of the 10,000 Laughs Comedy Festival , which opens on Thursday.

There's a lot to see during the three-day comedy fest in addition to Cross and Sean Patton (who is currently starring on FX's English Teacher ). The lineup includes Pete Holmes , Rory Scovel , Ali Mac , Geoffrey Asmus , and others.

    More concerts on Thursday:

Gorilla Biscuits with Big Laugh and others

Friday, Oct. 11 at The Cedar Cultural Center

This one is a highlight of Extreme Noise's 30th-anniversary concert series. The long-running, collectively-operated record store is bringing in the New York hardcore legends Gorilla Biscuits for a show that will be loud, sweaty, and memorable. Big Laugh, Empire Down, Identity Crisis, and Gnaw will open.

    More concerts on Friday:

    MJ Lenderman & The Wind

Saturday, Oct. 12 at First Avenue

While Lenderman hasn't become a household name, he's built a following that makes shows into an event. His fourth album, Manning Fireworks (his fourth since 2022), has been almost universally praised for clever songwriting, witty lyrics, and a John Darnielle-like ability to make it all seem deeply sincere. He plays First Avenue on Saturday with Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band. (They'll play Eau Claire's much more intimate Stones Throw on Sunday.)

    More concerts on Saturday:

    Christian McBride & Ursa Major

Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13 at The Dakota

The Dakota is billing McBride as a "titan of modern jazz." It's a lofty superlative, but it might not come close to an accurate portrayal of the Grammy winner's stature in the jazz world.

McBride is an iconic bassist, composer, bandleader, and champion of music and musicians. He's played alongside almost every jazz luminary you'd name off the top of your head — Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, Roy Hargrove, Josh Redman, Sonny Rollins, Chick Corea... the list goes on. McBride and his ensemble will play two shows each on Saturday and Sunday.
