Mia invites visitors to name fish at the center of its new exhibition

The Minneapolis Institute of Art likes to get visitors involved in exhibits when that's possible, and it's inviting art lovers to engage with its new exhibit, "Catch of the Day," in a unique way.

Opening on Oct. 12, "Catch of the Day" explores the relationship between Japanese culture and the sea with a large fish sculpture by Imai Sadamasa as its centerpiece. That ceramic fish will not only grab attention, viewers have the chance to name it.

Contests like this can bring back fond memories of Boaty McBoatface . However, Sadamasa's "Napoleon Fish" isn't likely to wind up named Fishy McFishface.

The Mia's contest runs from Oct. 10–31 and will accept suggestions through Instagram, Facebook, and in-person at the Minneapolis museum. But the name will not be put to a public vote. The artist will select the winner.

The individual who puts forward the sculpture's chosen name will get a plush replica of the sculpture. Moreover, anyone who throws a name into the proverbial hat at the museum will get an enamel pin of Sadamasa's sculpture.
