Haaland Announces $16M for Drought Resilience During Washington State Visit
TOPPENISH, WA – Secretary Haaland concluded a multi-day visit to Washington State to celebrate major progress in implementing President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to safeguard communities from increased threat of wildland fire and severe drought, restore ecosystems, and strengthen tribal communities. During her visit, Secretary Haaland met with tribal leaders from the Confederated Tribes of the Yakama Nation, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Puyallup Tribe, as well as Bureau of Indian Education-funded staff and personnel. On the heels of the devastating 1980 Slide Ranch Fire in late June, Secretary Haaland also met with more than 50 Yakama Nation firefighters to express the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to sharing resources, investing in resilience efforts, and prioritizing permanent pay reforms and increases for tribal firefighters.

Seattle-area grocery chain Town & Country Markets is taking on restaurants with the debut of a market-to-table restaurant called Field House. Poulsbo Fire Department is asking voters to renew a property tax levy to keep funding the department's emergency medical services in the next six years. The current EMS levy rate in Poulsbo is $0.37 per $1,000 of assessed value. In 2019, voters approved an EMS levy rate of $0.50/$1000 of assessed value.
