Last night’s severe weather involved a tornado in Rhode Island, Bristol County
The wild weather Wednesday night resulted in a tornado in Rhode Island and Bristol County. According to the National Weather Service, a tornado touched down near Breakneck Hill Road in Lincoln, RI just before 11:30 p.m. and traveled to the east-northeast. A number of large hardwood trees were uprooted, some of which fell onto homes and other structures in both Lincoln and Cumberland, RI. The tornado reached maximum intensity of around 100 mph in a few locations. Other trees were topped and snapped well above the ground. The maximum width of the tornado was around 100 yards.

Update: Tornado warning for Bristol and Plymouth counties until early Thursday
The National Weather Service issued an updated tornado warning at 11:32 p.m. on Wednesday in effect until Thursday at midnight for Bristol and Plymouth counties. "At 11:32 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Attleboro, or near North Attleborough, moving east at 55 mph," according to the weather service. "Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."

Gun violence is multifaceted, taking on various forms. A spontaneous shooting motivated by anger differs significantly from a gang-related shooting involving multiple victims as a matter of street business. School shootings are different than suicide by gun. A spree shooting is different than a domestic violence shooting. While improving access to mental health services is crucial, attributing all youth shootings solely to mental health issues overlooks other contributing factors. For example, securely storing guns in safes at home can greatly reduce youth access to firearms and prevent shootings.
