Get ready for salsa, empanadas and and piraguas. The 51st Puerto Rican Day Festival hits Bristol this Saturday beginning at noon at Bristol Lions Park, at the foot of Mill Street on the Delaware River.

The program, sponsored by the Puerto Rican Cultural Association of Bucks County, will have a full day lineup of cultural history, music and food.

From 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. will be "Bomba & Plena Music and Dance Interactive Workshop" by Los Bomberos del la Calle. There will be singing and dancing from bomba and plena artists "centered around a narrative filled with spiritual and political significance," according to a post by the association. "Bomba and plena are two distinct percussion-driven musical traditions with Afro-Puerto Rican origins."

From 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. there will be a Taino Interactive Workshop, hosted by Carmen I. Ruiz and Lissette Berrios. It will focus on Taino history, the native Caribbean tribe from which most Puerto Ricans descend.

From 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., learn about Orocovis, the town named for Taino Chief Orocovix, and sometimes called the music capital of Puerto Rico.

If you're Boricua (from the original name of the island, Borinquen), you can check your family line with the help of the Bucks County Genealogical Society. The society can help you trace your roots, and they will be at the festival from noon to 8 p.m.

There will also be food trucks and nighttime entertainment in the park by the salsa band, the Latin Express.

If you've not attended, put it on your Saturday summer to-do. And don't forget to try piraguas, a Puerto Rican icey. Delish.
