Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing.

Imagine going into the water to go to a pool.

This isn't a riddle or some brain teaser, but a proposal under discussion in Bristol and not everyone is in favor.

The Journal's Antonia Farzan reports on the Bristol Harbor Inn's idea for a floating pool boat in Bristol Harbor.

What's driving the idea of the pool boat that would be contained in an aluminum barge and inspired by a similar vessel at the Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club in Kennebunkport, Maine, and why are residents voicing opposition?

    Antonia has the details.

    • Gaston Malloy of Rumford wants your old band instruments.

No, he's not a hoarder and he's not looking to flip them for a profit. Rather, Malloy has spent the last 30 years fixing up instruments and giving them to area kids whose parents otherwise couldn't afford them.

The Journal's Antonia Farzan shares Malloy's story and why he undertakes such an effort.

    • After years in the making, the Culinary Hub of Providence has opened its doors in the Providence Public Library.

Journal food and dining editor Gail Ciampa recently visited the new establishment that will meld restaurant with a real-life classroom for 30-plus culinary students. What she found is that the menu is just as impressive as the mission.

Gail also has big news from a South Kingstown pizzeria that continues to gain international acclaim, along with the latest food news and notes to keep you full.

    • The battle over parking in Narragansett continues, this time with the town deciding to take matters into their own hands when it comes to the state-owned Ocean Road. The Journal's Jonny Williams has the latest on why the town and RIDOT are at odds with each other.

    • The state Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a state law intended to give people who commit crimes in their youth a chance to win parole after they serve 20 years. The Journal's Katie Mulvaney has the latest on Mario's Law.

    RHODY RANKS

Every day we receive emails ranking Rhode Island. While the work behind the ranks may be dubious, they can be fun. Each day I'll share where Rhody Ranks from one of the latest emails.

New research has revealed the states with the worst geographical knowledge, with Rhode Island ranking sixth in lack of geographical knowledge.

Experts at QR Code Generator analyzed various geography-related search terms in each U.S. state, such as 'where is the Grand Canyon?' and 'what is the population of Vermont?', before comparing the average monthly search volume to the population to determine the final ranking.
