    US Navy ship visits Bristol, offering tours

    BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — The U.S. Navy has been sending ships to Bristol for the town’s historic Fourth of July celebration since the early 1900s.

    For this year’s event, the USS Marinette is moored just outside the harbor. The vessel will have tenders from Bristol Town Pier.

    According to organizers of Bristol’s annual celebration, people will be able to tour the ship from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July 4 until July 7.

    Anyone interested in going on board will be prescreened at the water taxi launch. A valid photo ID is required. Visitors cannot wear short skirts, and closed-toed shoes are required.

    All visitors must also be physically capable of climbing up and down steep ladders and getting on and off the ship.
