Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Road in Bristol, announced several upcoming events:. 123rd Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count takes place Saturday, Dec. 17, from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Join birder/naturalist Robert Mercer and a team of birders for this free event. All levels of experience, including no experience, are welcome to participate in this important citizen science national bird census. Come out for the whole day or part(s). Meet at Neshaminy State Park or at SLNC. Times/meeting locations will be confirmed upon registration. Bring your binoculars. Register online or by phone.
County releases preliminary 2023 operating budget, no tax increase
Bucks County recently released its preliminary 2023 operating budget of $457.5 million, a 3.8 percent decrease from 2022. With additional anticipated revenue sources, including funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, the board of commissioners is able to balance the coming year’s budget without raising taxes or dipping into the general fund. The county will also enter the new year with its AAA bond rating recently reaffirmed by Moody’s Investors Service and S&P Global Ratings.
Bucks County Solicitor is Lawyer of the Year
The Pennsylvania Bar Association recently presented Bucks County Solicitor Joe Khan with its 2022 Government Lawyer of the Year Award. He received the award during an event in Harrisburg in recognition of his work advocating on behalf of the county and its residents as head of the Bucks County Law Department. In the past year, Khan and his team have scored critical wins in lawsuits brought against the county, as well as taken aim at those who have done harm to the county or its residents.
Bucks County displays Project Blue Light wreath
The Bucks County Commissioners recently joined with local law enforcement to officially light the Project Blue Light wreath for the 2022 holiday season. Displayed from the third floor rotunda in the Doylestown-based Administration Building, the wreath will remain lit throughout the holiday season in honor of law enforcement officers from Bucks County who died in the line of duty. The wreath is adorned with blue lights and white ornaments.
Donation for holiday meals

Parx gives away 1,000s of Thanksgiving meals to local seniors
Team members from Parx Casino gave away thousands of meals for Thanksgiving and the holidays last Tuesday at Bristol Township Senior Center, 2501 Bath Road. Over the previous week, Parx executives and team members donated hundreds of hours to personally make and prepare the meals through Caring for Friends. Those very same meals were then given away to seniors in need, along with a week’s worth of meals and soups. Seniors from Bucks County signed up for pick-up slots.

Victorian Holiday House at Grundy Museum
Grundy Museum is presenting its third annual Victorian Holiday House. For the first time, the entire museum, located at 610 Radcliffe St. in Bristol, will be decorated with exquisite Victorian displays. Bristol Riverside Theatre to undergo first major renovation since opening
Since its opening in 1986, Bristol Riverside Theatre has served as an entertainment haven for the borough and surrounding areas. From its mainstage seasons featuring hits like Cabaret to special seasonal offerings, including summer concerts, the cornerstone building on Radcliffe Street has largely helped Bristol’s business district become the hot-spot that it is today.

24-year-old facing felony charges for illegal straw purchase of guns in Bucks
Leonard Truesdale, 24, is facing a slew of felony charges for the illegal straw purchase of 21 guns at gun stores, almost exclusively in Bucks County. He was arraigned on Nov. 9 on 21 counts each of making false statements on firearm purchase forms, criminal conspiracy to make false statements on firearm purchase forms and selling or transferring a firearm to an unlicensed person. All the offenses are second-degree and third-degree felonies.
