NHRA Junior Drag Racing League Eastern Conference Finals returns to Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — The NHRA Junior Drag Racing League Eastern Conference Finals has returned to the Bristol Dragway after a one-year hiatus.

Dragway manager Jimmy Owen told News Channel 11 that youth races like these are what keep the sport alive.

“In all honesty, it is the future of our sport,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for 25 plus years, you know, the kids are what’s going to come up and keep the sport alive.”

Several different youth racing events are taking place now through Saturday, with the main event, the Eastern Conference Finals, starting Thursday. According to a news release from the dragway, the Mike Bos Chassis Craft Jr. Dragster Nationals took place Friday through Sunday, and the Fun Races are happening Monday through Wednesday.

Owen said that even though the drag cars are smaller than normal, they pack a punch.

“I call them little cars, but by no means are they simple.”
