    Houses damaged, no injuries reported after lightning strike in Bristol, Va.

    BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) – Houses on Timberbrook Drive in Bristol, Virginia received damage on Friday after a lightning strike.

    News Channel 11 was on the scene and spoke with the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office, which said it is believed that the lightning bolt struck a nearby tree. One house then caught on fire, and a second house received minor smoke damage.

    The sheriff’s office said no injuries were reported after the strike.

    According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

    About 40 million lightning strikes hit the ground in the United States each year. But the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are less than one in a million, and almost 90% of all lightning strike victims survive. The odds of being struck multiple times is even less, with the record being seven times in one lifetime.
