BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Bristol Humane Society’s Margaret B. Mitchell (MBM) Spay/Neuter Clinic has completed 200,000 spay and neuter surgeries.

The clinic held a “Paws in Party” event on Wednesday to celebrate the milestone.

“It’s a big milestone,” MBM Spay/Neuter Clinic Executive Director Dr. Jennifer McCall Ketron said. “Not only to celebrate the hard work and dedication that our team has put into taking care of our patients each day but also to [reflect on] our partnership with our local shelters and rescue groups and animal welfare organizations. And most [importantly], the donors that have supported us through the years.”

The clinic completes around 70 to 100 surgeries a day and approximately 14,000 surgeries a year, according to Ketron.

Ketron said the clinic also performs wellness visits on Thursdays and Fridays.

“To have a resource that is a low-cost facility, both for spay-neuter surgeries and we also do wellness visits now on Thursdays and Fridays, is very critical to helping take some of the burden off of the local veterinarians, but also to give an opportunity for people to get vet care for their pets that they may otherwise not seek out.”
