BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — The Bristol Virginia Police Department (BVPD) is investigating an alleged shooting that took place Friday morning on the former Virginia Intermont (VI) College’s campus.

A news release from the BVPD said officers responded to the former college campus at around 6:09 a.m. amid reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, officers located a male with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen, and he was airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center, according to the BVPD.

Carter Co. inmate Billy Fletcher charged with murder in connection to Victor Birchfield’s disappearance

The BVPD said the man’s condition was unknown at the time of the information’s release and he was reported to be homeless.

The release said there were three men observed leaving the VI property around the time of the shooting and are believed to be persons of interest. The department said the men were reported as being “two white males and one light skinned black male,” and have yet to be located.

The BVPD said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and anyone with information on the incident or the three persons of interest are urged to call 276-645-7400.
