L.A. Care Health Plan reduces services requiring prior authorization
L.A. Care Health Plan has updated its list of codes requiring prior authorization, including those tied to radiology services, reducing the number of services that require it. The health plan removed 24% of existing codes in an effort to avoid delays in member care, speed up discharge requests, and decrease the administrative burden for providers. L.A. Care identified codes to remove from the list after conducting a review of historical utilization approvals.

As the city prepares to host next week’s Democratic National Convention (DNC)—which social justice organizers have long been preparing actions around—art organizations are doing their part to contemplate the intersection of politics and protest. Gertie, a local cultural convener, will host Next Stop: Chicago, a public art series that aims to highlight infrastructure inequity along the Green Line. “It’s about activating around the time when there are going to be a lot of eyes on the city,” Gertie founder Abby Pucker explains. For the project, Gertie provided grants to long-standing cultural institutions on the south and west sides to realize or help support placemaking projects. “People have a very specific narrative of Chicago—especially media and media from outside of Chicago—that they want to talk about, and that doesn’t always align with the story that exists here and that people want to be telling here.” Here are our recommendations for protest-related art offerings that provide a more holistic view of our city, timed to an event that “the whole world is watching.”
