Kansas City lined up on 2nd-and-7 from the San Francisco 37-yard-line with approximately one minute left in the third quarter. The Chiefs were up by two at the time. Mahomes took the snap and dropped back to pass. Nobody was open so he took off running. He broke one tackle near the line of scrimmage with an initial pump-fake to the running back. To lay so much as a finger on Mahomes as he scampered out of bounds could be flagged so it’s not worth the risk. The safer move is to let him run out of the field of play on his own accord instead of forcing him to do so. As we saw on Sunday, that creates a lane in which to keep running.
