BROCKTON — A grand jury has handed down indictments in the murder of Brockton's Sederick Abreu, allegedly by at the hands of his own brother and with help from another brother plus a family friend.

Sederick Abreu was 27 when he was fatally shot in the chest at a 36 Hoover Ave. home on Easter. On Tuesday, a Plymouth County grand jury ruled there's enough evidence to charge Brockton's Jeremiah Abreu, 20, with first-degree murder.

Grand jurors also returned indictments for Sederick Abreu's brother Sirick Amado, also of Brockton, as an accessory before the fact and for Antonio DeJesus of Taunton, who was previously described in court as the victim's "best friend," as an accessory after the fact.

The indictments mirror the charges authorities had previously filed against the three men.

What happened on night Abreu was killed

Police were called to the Hoover Avenue address at about 2:17 a.m. on March 31. From previous court appearances, here's what the state claims happened: That surveillance video shows Amado handing a gun to Jeremiah Abreu, who allegedly runs into the home and shoots the victim. A separate surveillance video, the commonwealth alleges, depicts the shooter leaving this house and handing a gun to DeJesus, who puts it into a red Dodge Durango.

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that a search of the home turned up several items of evidence. State Police convinced a judge to give them a warrant for Jeremiah Abreu's arrest. Authorities found him two days later in Maine.

In addition to murder, the grand jury also indicted Jeremiah Abreu on gun charges plus assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He's being held without bail.

Amado and DeJesus face not only the accessory charges, but also gun charges and counts of misleading a police officer or investigator. They had previously pleaded not guilty to all charges. Amado remains in jail on $20,000 bail, prosecutors said.

Attorneys for the three men could not immediately be reached for comment on the indictments. The DA's office said to expect arraignments for all three men to come in Brockton Superior Court.
